On The Job Training and Related Supplemental Instruction
Our apprenticeship consists of four years of on the job training (OJT). Under supervision, apprentices earn hours and experience while working a full time job with Frontier Electric. Instructors and journeymen will meet regularly with apprentices to help set goals and provide constructive feedback. There are 8 steps before apprentices take their journey-level exam or apprentices in the 01 program, and 6 steps for apprentices in 06. These steps are defined by 1000 hours of OJT.
In conjunction with OJT, apprentices receive related supplemental instruction (RSI). This is instruction that takes place in a classroom setting 4 hours a week on Thursday afternoons. RSI prepares apprentices for their journey-level exam by familiarizing them with the National Electrical Codebook (NEC), calculations, and essential knowledge about the electrical industry.
